What are the benefits to using local installers and tradespeople?

Accepted Answer

Money spent with a local tradesperson tends to stay local: in wages, in skills, in future work. It also means faster, easier support after your install, since the person who fitted your system isn't three counties away. We train and retain local trades specifically so that knowledge and economic benefit stay where the work happens.

Are there specific streets where POP has already installed, where I could talk to neighbours who've done it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We've installed systems on homes across the UK, including on Lynmouth Road, Walthamstow, as featured in the Power Station documentary. Neighbours who've already done this are often the best people to talk to.

Question 3

Do I get a discount if my neighbours install renewables too?

Accepted Answer

Every home is unique, but often homes on the same street have a lot in common. This means a lot of the questions households have are similar, so by working with neighbours as a group we can give a greater number of people hands-on, tailored support. We then cut our travel costs and logistics by surveying streets at the same time, and coordinating installation to get trades in the same place, at the same time. We pass these savings on in our pricing, with discounts of 1% per household (up to 5%) that joins a street.

How do I bring POP to my street or neighbourhood?

There's a couple of ways to get involved - but the short answer is: ask us! You can sign up as a Street Power Champion online, we'll support you to get started. Can I get POP as an individual home, or do you only work street by street?

Yes, you can get started on your own. Every home is unique, but homes on the same street often have a lot in common, so when neighbours come together as a group, we can give more households hands-on, tailored support. We also cut travel and logistics by surveying and installing streets together, and we pass those savings on: a 1% discount per household, up to 5%, for each neighbour who joins. That said, it takes one person to start a movement, and being first shouldn't hold you back. Most of our households start on their own before their street follows.

How does POP decide which communities to work in?

There's no hard and fast rule about who POP prioritises working with, especially as we deliver direct to customers and develop projects for community buildings and public sector programmes. We're generally looking for communities where there's an existing infrastructure of connection - be it events, group chats, or general openness to work together. Having an anchor organisation helps, as does a financing pathway. We look to collaborate, not compete, so our priority is always plugging into existing ecosystems rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

I don't see my area listed, can I still get a quote from POP?

It depends on where you are: how close you are to our existing bases of activity and the relationships we have in your region. That said, we are expanding and our growth has to start somewhere so drop us a line on hello@pop.energy and let's talk it through.

Which communities does POP operate in?

Accepted Answer

POP is currently actively designing and installing in: London (Richmond, Southfields, Tooting, Wandsworth and Walthamstow); the South East (Brighton, Forest Row, Hassocks, Oxford, Lewes, Ringmer and Steyning); the South West (Bath, Bristol and Frome). POP is in discussions with projects and communities in Cambridge, Dorset, Manchester, Norfolk, Nottingham, Sark, Totnes, Wales and the Isle of Wight.

Why doesn't POP install everywhere?

Our model works best when we build real density in an area: enough neighbours, local trades and local knowledge that installing becomes faster and cheaper for everyone. That means growing region by region on purpose, rather than spreading thin everywhere at once.
